Report of the visit to Hereford Records Office
on 12th October 2004.
'Eleven of us were given a
fascinating tour of the Hereford County Record Office by the County
Archivist Mrs Elizabeth Semper O'Keefe. We were shown the 'notebook' of
the thirteenth-century bishop-saint, Thomas of Hereford, and were told
how the office works to conserve a wide range of historical documents.
Later in the morning we were able to see some of the
wealth of
material relating directly to Whitbourne, including a sixteenth-century
survey and the diary of the daughters of a Victorian Rector.
Following the visit, a team of
fifteen volunteers are now busy unravelling the social history of the
houses at the 'core' of Old Whitbourne.
