More about the Parish of Greater Whitbourne

Greater Whitbourne (the church parish) includes six former parishes, combined, as so many others are also, to save on the costs of providing clergy and their housing. It is in the unique Teme Valley, an unspoiled area not too far from the M5.

Whitbourne itself is a typical village (if there is such a thing). It has a church, two pubs, a school, a shop, a village hall, several farms, a big estate and around four hundred people living in it. It is a large parish, including the areas of Tedney, Gaines and Bringsty, each of which has its own distinct character.

Although Whitbourne is in the county of Herefordshire, it is in many ways closer to Worcester than it is to Hereford. It is on the County Boundary. More teenagers attend college in Worcester than in Hereford. The W.I. is affiliated to Worcestershire. The postcode is WR6. But our roots are strongly Hereford. When you cross the River Teme you are in a different world - the world of Hereford cattle, cider apples and people who smile and trust you to pay later.
